Established in extensive area of approximately 15 acres in the campus of Institute of Forest Productivity amidst scenic surrounding at Lalgutwa, the Botanical Garden of the institue has been designated as Lead Garden in Jharkhand.
Botanical garden has been set in extensive area of approximately 15 acres in the campus of Institute of Forest Productivity amidst scenic surrounding at Lalgutwa has been designated as Lead Garden in Jharkhand. The botanical garden is a grand repository of indigenous and exotic plant species including those of rare, endangered, threatened categories. The garden organizes a number of awareness activities and training programmes for promoting the cause of biodiversity conservation.The collection of species is around 300 including some of the rare and threatened flora of the region. Hierarchical pattern of three separate strata of herb, shrub and tree has been maintained while planting the seedlings and saplings. It is well equipped with modern facilities for propagation, multiplication and management such as modern nursery, clonal propagation units, mist chamber and hardening facilities. Approach road and visitor paths have also been constructed along with a small field demonstration centre.
The Botanical garden has a bambusetum having Germplasm of around 47 species from eastern India and a medicinal plant garden with more than 250 species. The institute also has its own herbarium consisting of a large number of collections from whole of eastern India. The herbarium is consulted and referred by scientists, researchers and students of the region.
